BACKGROUND:

• Dukken is a kindhearted Goth, interested in philosophy, who lives in a small town in Connecticut


• He befriends a girl named Melanie, who he runs into at the library; he's sure he knows her from high school but she claims not to remember him


• The more and more time he spends with her the more he comes to realize she may be disturbed; Melanie confides in him that a large doll she's been taking places with her talks to her


• Despite signs that she isn't well, and confusing and poor treatment of him on her part (at one point, she abandons him with her stalled car, leaving him to get it fixed and returned to her), he returns to her repeatedly


• He keeps trying to see and spend time with Melanie because he's trying to understand what's happening with her and to make sure she's okay


• She starts constructing another doll, telling Dukken it's for him, and she invites him to stay at her house one evening


• Later that night, after waking up, her delusions take over; now entirely distrustful of him, she attacks him with a knife


• He first arrived in Eudio over a year ago; he was taken from the moments after Melanie attacked him, and his incentive was he wanted to live.


• He stayed in Eudio for about nine months, earned his incentive, and went home. But being a philosophy-obsessed Goth who made a miraculous recovery from a knife attack really isn't a cool thing to be in a small town. He missed living in a place where he was more accepted, and will be returning to Eudio for that, and to see that Melanie receives the medical assistance she needs rather than being criminally prosecuted.

INCENTIVE: All Dukken wanted was to be friends with Melanie, maybe date her. Instead he found himself in over his head with a girl who wasn't well, and who wound up turning on him in her confusion. His first stay in Eudio was in return for being able to live, but once he returned home he was reminded how hard it was to be who he is in their small town. He was also worried about that small town environment when it came to what was going to happen to Melanie after what she did; he's worried they won't understand she isn't well and will put her in jail rather than getting her some help. So his incentive will be that should she be prosecuted, mental health assistance will be on the table for her.

FIT: His incentive is going to be huge motivation for him to fit in. But he also takes to other people easily and doesn't give up on them, thrives on building friendships, and has a genuine interest in sustaining those relationships. He's compassionate, open-minded, and nonjudgmental. Those qualities will also make it easy for him to adapt to life in the city, and to embrace being affectionate with other people. He's been in the city before so he's used to (and really embraces) the culture and the wide range of people in it. He tends to see people as individuals, and value what makes them unique.

CONSENT: It's that valuing each individual as unique and worthy that informs his views on consent, namely that it should never be broken. Each individual person deserves to be respected and to feel safe exactly as they are, with no outside pressure. He would never dream of violating anyone's boundaries or comfort levels. He stayed in the city for nine months on his last trip here, and he has a full understanding of the city's culture, and the importance placed here on respect, comfort, and consent. It's one of the things he loved about being here, and missed most when he went home.
